Hidden Manna
Spiritual Building-Stone No. 191
Revelation
2:17, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto
the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna,
and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which
no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.”
Listen what the Prophet of God said about it:
Now with this thought
in mind, look at the verse again. "I will give him the hidden manna."
We all know that the manna was angel food; it was what God sent down upon
the grass for Israel at the time of their wanderings. It was perfect food
(Exodus 16). It was amazing how those little pellets of food kept them in
perfect health. No one got sick. It was all they needed. When the ark was
made they put some of that manna into it. Then the ark was put behind the
veil and only the high priest would dare approach unto it and then he had
to have the sacrificial blood. The Bread from heaven, symbolized by manna,
one day came down from heaven and became Life for all who believe on Him.
He said, "I am the bread of life. I am the living bread that came down
from heaven, if any man shall eat of this bread he shall live forever."
(John 6:30-35,48-58). When He went away He left us His Word, "Man shall
not live by bread alone but by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of
God." (Matt. 4:4).
His Word was bread. It was the perfect manna, which, if a man live by, he
shall never die. But right after the death of the fathers, no one seemed to
know the exact truth and in a short while this manna seemed to have become
hidden to the people. But in every age God began to give back by revelation
that which was hidden until in this last day according to Revelation 10:7,
a prophet will come and reveal all the mysteries and then the Lord will come.
Now in each age, I say, the messengers received hidden truth. But they did
not receive it for themselves only. But it is as it was when the disciples
were asked to serve the multitudes loaves and fishes; Jesus gave them the
broken food, but they in turn gave it to the people (Mark 6:30-44). God gives
His hidden manna to the overcomer. It cannot be otherwise. He would not open
His treasures to those who spurn what is already revealed.
What I have been saying about the messenger of each age receiving from God
some of the original truth of Pentecost is typed out in the Old Testament
where Moses was commanded to take up three and one half pints of manna and
place it in a golden vessel behind the veil of the holy of holies (Exodus
16:33-34). There the high priest of every generation could enter with sacrificial
blood (Heb. 9:5-12). Then he could take a small portion of this manna (for
it did not corrupt) which was part of the original and eat it. Now in every
age the messenger of the Lord to that age was given the revelation of God
for that specific period. Once the messenger was enlightened by truth, he
would bring that truth to the people. And they whose ears had been opened
by the Spirit would hear that truth, believe it, and live it.
Now then, there is also the thought of the future partaking of the hidden
manna. I think it will be the eternal partaking of the revelation of Jesus
Christ in the eternal ages to come. How else could we begin to know the unsearchable
riches of His own Being? (Col. 2:2-3; Eph. 3:8). All that we have longed to
know, all our unanswered questions, all that will be revealed. It will be
from Christ Who is our life that we receive it. Oh, sometimes we think we
get to know a little of Him and His Word down here, and it is so good, it
makes us rejoice; but one day when our flesh changes, that Word and He will
become what we had never dreamed possible.
So the angel of God, the messenger to the church, is responsible if he preaches
not the Word. All right. [1]
"Hidden manna." Let's give the interpretation the best we can. What
does hidden manna type? Hidden manna was a manna that was kept in the place--or
a showbread, in the Bible, that was only for the priest (Exodus 25:30; Numbers
4:1-8). How many knows that? See? Now, it wasn't for... They had a bread for
the congregation, but there was a special bread for the priest. Is that right?
This is a special bread, a special bread, hidden manna. What is it? Who is
our Manna? Christ. Jesus said He was, "the Bread of Life that come from
God out of heaven," the Manna.
Well, what is the hidden manna? The manna that isn't given to all of the congregation.
The revelation is poured out upon the angel of the church, the revelation
of the Word, revelation of the Word is given to the Angel of that age, for
it's hid from everywhere, and revealed back (the hidden manna) to... It's
addressed to the angel of the church. See? You get it? It's a little bigger
revelation of what Christ is, maybe a little higher call.
The hidden manna, a little something special. What is the special? Not something
to... The blessings of the Holy Ghost? Oh, no, that's for the whole congregation.
But the hidden manna was a special revelation, 'cause he had to teach the
others. See? Was a little more knowledge of the Scripture, that he could teach
others. He's supposed to be. Is that right? You'll never live no higher than
your pastor. You just remember that. See? And so... 'Cause he's the shepherd
that feeds you. If he's the shepherd, he's got to know where the manna is,
to feed the sheep. Is that right? Now, a little special... And watch this
just a minute, the revelation, the hidden manna.
And “he shall have a white rock” (Rev. 2:17). That's right, “purity”.
"A new name, a new name written in this rock that nobody knows but he
himself." He knows who he is, but he can't tell others. See, see? No
one knows but himself. See? Peter knows he had the keys, but you didn't hear
him bragging about it. See? These guys who brag about what they are is usually
nothing. "A white rock, and in it a new name," not his own name,
but he's somebody else that only he himself knows (he that's got the rock,
the name). See, special manna to feed the church, remember. [2]
Don't make any difference what people say. You know yourself when you've been
brought into the inner veil. No one could tell you any different. Not because
you joined church, because you did this or that, but something just tells
you. You've got a stone that's in the heart, not a hard stone, a soft one.
This stone makes your heart soft instead of hard. [4]
It was a white stone, mean not his own righteousness, but God's own righteousness.
[3]
In the Bible, we just
come through it over there in the church ages. Jesus is the hidden Manna;
Christ is the church's Manna. What is manna? Manna in the Old Testament was
that what come down from heaven fresh every night to sustain the church in
its journey. Is that right? Now, in the New Testament what is the hidden Manna?
"A little while and the world seeth Me no more (hidden); yet ye shall
see Me, for I'll be with you, even in you to the end of the world." (John
14:18-19). And Christ is that hidden Manna that comes from God out of heaven
afresh every day.
We can't say, "Well, two weeks ago I had a great experience of God."
What about right now? See? Every day, fresh, a new blessing, a new something
coming from God, the hidden Manna coming down from God out of heaven, Christ.
And we feast upon this Manna which is Christ, and He sustains us through the
journey till we reach the land on the other side. [5]
"Hidden manna, a
stone, a new name that no man knows but he himself," and it was addressed
to the angel of the church. I wonder if Luther knowed that? I wonder if Wesley
knowed it? I wonder if the other great angels? [2]
And now, we find out that He also got hidden manna. Now, hidden manna is typed
to the shewbread. The shewbread was for priests alone. That is right. Shewbread
was just for the priest. It was a special thing made for the priest, that
is, the leaders; and this man overcome. The whole congregation got manna,
but he got a hidden special manna, or special revelation, oh, of Who Jesus
was, and what about Him, all about Him. See, he got that revelation if he
had overcome. To the angel, “Hold fast, for He had overcome...”
Addressed to the angel of the church... See? [3]
Feed us with that hidden Manna that You said in the Bible was given, that laid back just for the priesthood only. And we're taught that we are priests of God, offering spiritual sacrifice, that is, the fruits of our lips, giving praise to His Name (I Peter 2:9-10; Rev. 1:5-6). [6]
Oh, when He raised up Christ from the grave, dwelling in you, is quickened
your mortal bodies unto His Presence. You recognize It; you are no longer
a scavenger; you're an eagle. You don't want the things of the world. You're
a son and daughter of God. You're feasting at a fountain that the world knows
nothing about; you're drinking at--somebody knows--the world knows nothing
about. You're eating hidden Manna that the world never even knowed nothing
of It, for you're an eagle; you're quickened up where you can get to It. You
can't get to It down here; you got to get up here. You got to be quickened,
lifted up there, so It will quicken. [7]
